the south of ukraine in the crimea region. nbc news learned exclusive details about an fbi informant planted inside of al qaeda. according to numerous sources, the fbi had a mole who actually met osama bin laden eight years before the september 11th attacks. and this mole knew bin laden planned to finance terror plots, but the bureau opted not to disclose that information to the 9/11 commission. the informant acted as a, quote, driver and confidant for the man who planned the 1993 terror attack on the world trade center. bin laden apparently told the mole about a planned attack on a masonic lodge in los angeles, that information in the end helping the fbi to prevent the attack from happening. >>> the nutritional panels on all those foods that we buy are about to get a bit of a makeover. today, michelle obama and the head of the fda will announce proposed updates as part of the first lady's push to help americans make healthier choices. nbc's tracie potts is in washington. and tracie, as we look at some of these possible changes, how might they make things easier, some will be asking.

off a car bomb outside an oakland bank. the bomb was a fake. his partner an undercover fbi agent. the former marine was found to have a history of mental illness. he faces up to 15 years in prison. >> a campbell man sun der arrest accused of trying to kill his family with his car. it happened down the street from west mont high. the detectives say anthony mcsherry's two kids and mother were in his acura when he slammed into a home. after the crash one witness says the driver got out and ran but a neighbor caught him. others helped rescue the mother and kids. they were not seriously hurt. >> when i came around the corner here, the car was in here, the hole in the bushes and it was smoking and there were kids in the car screaming and crying. the mother was in there. >> two people inside the home were not hurt either. mcsher have i charged with attempted murder and driving under the influence. >> it's 4:38. more on our weather alert. a look at fremont. the roads slick but no raindrops at least for now. >> let's check in with christina who is going to have a busy morning. >> good mor

nutritional products corporation in pleasanton. over the past decades fbi agents have gotten tips pointing them to the north bay and santa cruz. he's been on the most wanted terrorist list since 2009 and there's now a $250,000 reward for his capture. >>> and now to an nbc bay area follow-up. a southern california woman has pleaded no contest to this attack on blues musician lester chambers. 73-year-old chambers was in hayward last year for a blues festival and when he dedicated his song to florida teenager trayvon martin this woman jumped on stage and shoved him into an amplifier. she was charged with felony elder abuse. earlier that day george zimmerman was acquitted in the killings of trayvon martin. >>> what a headache. thousands of californians will have to redo their online applications for health care coverage because of a software error in the covered california system. state officials say it impacts more than 14,000 people who partially completed applications or updated them between february 17th and february 19th. covered california says it will contact you if you are one
